Theory Exams & Helium Balloons

Theory Exams & Helium Balloons

What do Theory Exams and Helium Balloons have in common? Absolutely nothing.

Theory Examinations are 1 hour or longer written tests to do with notation, scales, intervals, rhythms, cadences…while Helium Balloons suggest celebration & excitement.

Well why not celebrate the fact that you’ve completed your long, grueling theory exam with a Helium Balloon photoshoot? 😉

I sometimes marvel at how much work a music student puts into their Conservatory exams – this is on top of their regular school work and projects, or summer sports and camps, etc. Choosing to write a music theory exam mid-August when you’re 12 or 13? That’s called commitment. It’s commitment to music, to your instrument, and a confidence you have in continuing your musical education. I could not be more proud of my summer theory students who took part in my Theory Intensive Courses these past two weeks and who successfully wrote their theory exams, each for the first time.

Check out the photos below of how I spent only $8 to set up this small photoshoot and made sure each student left their exam with a smile (photos taken by the Presiding Officer at the exam).
